Credit Union Vs. Bank – What is a credit union?
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial institutions. Banks are for-profit and have trustees and shareholders to make profits for. Therefore, a credit union must invest their earnings back into the business and the community. Credit union members enjoy the surplus in profit returned to them in lower loan rates, higher earned interest rates, and exclusive member rewards. Credit union members are its shareholders. A volunteer Board of Directors makes decisions involving the credit union. Credit unions provide many of the same services of a traditional bank without the high fees and service charges.
